Dear Cardinal Sean,
It makes me proud to have a Franicscan Cardinal in our midst. What I gather from a distance, you must be a holy man. You have been in my prayers since you became the Archbishop of Boston.

This was a beautiful and inspiring trip. I wish I could have been there to celebrate. One thing distrubed me about the pictures. Padre Pio had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. I saw only one picture with the Blessed Mother. Also, where were the statues of Mary and Joseph in the last church? The older churches of course had beautiful and awe inspiring art.

This seems to be norm for a great many Franciscan Churches and retreat houses. St. Francis and Padre Pio must both be weeping profusely from heaven seeing these Holy places stripped of their beauty which draws the soul towards God.

We little people in the pews need all the holy inspiration we can get after dealing with harsh realities through the week. We need the art work and the statues back into the churches. WE need the devotions to be reintroduced. If we are to remain a country with freedom of religion, we need all the help we can get. We need to rebuild our Catholic population into a holy people. We have become dry and uninterested in God. I beg you to help our parishes reinstitute devotions and recreate the beauty of our churches. We need to recreate so that we can have a vision of heaven. Even if it is in a human prospective. We need to be vitalized. If we are to recreate the Church Militant than we need to have the ammunition.

Thank you for reading and possibly considering this. May God Bless You. Your Franciscan sister in Christ.

Sincerely,
Donna G. Francis, SFO

I am a convert, and also a Secular Franciscan. I love my faith and my vocation. I live and breathe on the words given to St. Francis, " Francis, rebuild my Church".

I enjoyed reading first blog from Cardinal O'Malley.
After 9/22 could not access this page. Today is 9/25. Will this be a weekly summary?
Also,if the Pope should enquire sentiment re the recent flap w/Muslims, my suggestion would be to cool it - it seems to me that the Testament mentions avoid- ing too many mea culpas and dwelling on mistakes.
[This would apply to the recent problems in this Archdiocese also.]
Finally, whether this reaches the Cardinal or not, safe home to all.

Greetings Cardinal Sean,

I found this blog via an article on Boston.com. I am not a catholic (well technically I was baptised and I think I did first communion but that's about it) but I have been reading your blog with interest. I would like to visit Rome someday so it is very interesting to see it through your eyes. I hope you will keep this blog open as a regular thing. It is a much more immediate and unfiltered way to communicate with people instead of the regular media.

Wow!! A cardinal blogging - I am bookmarking right now.

Godspeed to you, your Emminence. I'm not one of your sheep (I'm in the Diocese of Austin, TX), but I see Christ working through you and am thankful for such strong leaders in our church. May he guide you in your new station in life, and may you share in his eternal glory.
