Dear Sean, what a beautiful tribute to all of the pro-life supporters. I was not able to attend this year because of snow in our area. My daughter Jane Treado is youth director in her Leesburg church, St Francis Desales, formerly Capuchin managed. She had 2 busses of students attend the Mass at MCI and the march.
I am brother to Father Desales and Father Valentine Young, your foremer teacher in the seminary. I met you briefly in St Louis when the Pope was there in 1999.
I am making your site known to Bill O'reilly and after reading his culture warrior think he should communicate with you.

Thanks for making your web site available and sharing the good work for pro life. We need to hear more about the end doesn't justify the means. It is a truth that is so basic, yet so easily forgotten.

Your Eminence: It is wonderful to see so many young people from Boston at the March. I would dearly love to see some of them join us on any Saturday in front of Planned Parenthood at 1055 Commonwealth Ave., not far from B.U. A group of us have been going there for many years and to be joined by young people would be a great witness to the "Escorts" that PP recruits from the colleges. We speak the Culture of Life; acting and being where life is destroyed would speak louder than words. An average of 20 children every single Saturday are destroyed, not to count those during the week. Please, Your Eminence, ask these wonderful young adults to join us.
We are running out of steam. God bless you.

Most Eminent Sean Cardinal O'Malley,

As I listen to the words of Saint Faustina, in the background as I prepare to write to you. I first looked at your work with The Lord for the unborn. Just this morning, a message from The Angelicans came asking me to serve the Lord in Ministry for the same cause.

We are blessed to have you here in New England and on earth in our time. A time of so many uncertainties. But there is a light, one light that was sent to earth. Our Savior, Jesus Christ. May your light remain united in Him and continue to shine brightly.

May we say 'yes' when He ask's, thru the unborn and in life.

Your Eminence

I read your blog each week from here in the UK. I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts etc with us week by week. But I would like to thank you even more for this week's coverage of the annual March for Life in Washington DC.

From various sources, I read each year about this wonderful witness - particularly that of young people. For 20,000 young people to turn up (and more turned away for lack of space) - this is a marvellous message of true evangelisation - and a true expression of hope for the Church.

I'm afraid we have nothing like this here in the UK - by and large, we have no national rallies with the opportunity for episcopal leadership and witness. Those which do exist tend to be organised by the more traditional Catholics, who are somewhat on the margins of Church life here.

It does one a power of good to read about, to see pictures of and to be aware of the magnifient witness of our brothers and sisters across the pond. Thank you so much for restoring the confidence of so many of us.

God bless you and your flock.

Cardinal O'Malley,

In a world immersed in the Culture of Death, it is great to see rallies such as the March for Life. However, a far greater weapon is being left unused. The Traditional Latin Mass is far more powerful than any march or demonstration could hope to be. Christ as the True Sacrifice can do more to unite the people and mobilize change than any ecumenical "meal service" could. Why is your beloved diocese in Boston having to sell off all its properties to pay your lawyers and victims? The answer is easy....Because your diocese has no grace. None of the life giving, life changing, life affirming grace that comes from Christ as the Pascal Lamb. If you truly want to see your parishes live, give them life by demanding a Traditional Latin Mass out of every parish. Holy Trinity should be all the proof you need of it's immense power to change and enliven a parish.

You are in my prayers and may God grant you the grace to see what needs to be done.

Sincerely,
Cameron Dawson

January 30, 2007

Dear Cardinal O’Malley,

It has been my privilege to have attended Daily Mass at a variety of parishes across the country since 1995. I have never witnessed a priest encourage those at Mass to pray for “our enemies and those who persecute us.”

I believe that you could help to change Catholic culture and more effectively carry out the message of Jesus by ordering parish priests to include with the offering of prayer: “let us pray for our enemies and those who persecute us.”

We tend to think that we are good Catholics because we gather at Mass and pray for ourselves and those we deem “ok” or “with us.” God wants us to share the Good News with others. Catholic means “universal,” but we are not universal; the term “parochial” which applies to our schools also describes our view of the world.

If we prayed for our enemies and persecutors, who knows what wonderful things would happen? We don’t know because we have never tried.

After 9/11 not one of you esteemed Archbishops called for forgiveness of the terrorists. Ah, you would say they didn’t deserve it. Exactly! No one deserves mercy and forgiveness, but that is the Good News. The sad truth is that each and every one of us, if given the right motivation and the right circumstances, could do any of the heinous crimes that we routinely deplore, if not for the Grace of God. There is nothing different about our DNA or body chemistry which makes us special.

Moreover, our enemies are not half-way around the world. They are in our neighborhood or even in the same pew. They need our prayers and God demands it.

I would also suggest that if you and other clergy routinely asked for and gave prayers for our enemies and those who persecute us, it would have been a “no brainer” to ask for forgiveness and to pray for the terrorists of 9/11 as well as the victims.

Respectfully, I believe it would set a wonderful example to insist that every Mass include a specific invocation for prayers for our enemies and those who persecute us.

Sincerely,
Richard A. Cole, MD

I'm sorry that there is no information on the deacons' ordination on Saturday, the 27th. Not even a press release. Surely this is the most important event in the diocese this month, more important than the diocese's petition to redirect charitable funds. Please tell us who was ordained, their biographies, where they are assigned, what you know about them personally. We'd love to hear your personal comments on your new disciples, Cardinal Sean!

Thank you for ignoring the confused attempts to link capital punishment and Iraq to the in utero genocide called abortion.

Your homily rightly linked abortion with stem cell research and euthanasia, all absolute evils.

Hey Christian,

Seek out the deaconate ... but raise your 4-12 children first. Take it from me, when you have kids the "priesthood of the laity" and the married vocation will be plenty for you.

Cardinal O'Malley, thank you for sharing your wonderful homily and thoughts on the March for Life. Wish you could have given this at the podium on the day of the March.
Of all the speeches/homelies I heard this was the most on point and heartfelt (and there were some other really good ones).

I do have one minor suggestion, edit the text above so that where it refers to stem cell research, it is prefixed with "embryonic" less folks declare that Catholics are against all stem cell research. Several news organizations have recently stated that Catholics are against all stem cell research.

Dear Cardinal Sean,
As I read your blog on pro life, I could not help but remember the soldiers in Iraq. Pro life should include human beings who are alive and who are living a meaningful life. One of the commentators here talked about how the troops freely throw away their lives. This is exactly the same meaning. However they do not do it because they want to do it. They had no choice but to obey the President. Love your enemy as you love yourself. Love your enemies' lives as you love your friends' lives. What about capital punishment ? Just how pro life are we ? Are we completely pro life or are we just partially pro life ? Just some thoughts that are going through my mind.

Your Eminence,

I am a twenty-five-year-old Catholic man who intends to be married next summer. My fiancée and I are deeply committed to our Catholic faith. It is my hope that within my lifetime the Vatican will consider lifting the ban on the obligatory requirement of priestly celibacy. I stand in awe of those men who dedicate their lives entirely to God, but find the Church’s teaching on celibacy incompatible with the direction of my life. This only is the obstacle that prevents me from serving the Church in what I believe to be my fullest capacity.

Respectfully yours,

Christian

Cardinal Seán,

I would like to commend you for all of the great work that you have been doing for all of the Boston Archdiocese. Keep fighting for life in terms of an end to abortion. I look forward to reading your blog each week, and take great interest from it. As a teenager, I appreciate your efforts in reaching out to our generation without watering down the faith. We will end the evils of abortion one of these days. You are an inspiration to all.

Thank you and God bless you.

Thank you, your Eminence, for your words for our day of prayer for life last week. "Civilization of life or culture of death," a powerful question...and all of your references to images from popular culture only serve to show how real and urgent our decision is! Thanks too for the pictures of the crypt, which I had never seen before--reminiscent of the lower church of our holy father Francis' own basilica it is!
