It is NOT IMPRESSIVE for a Cardinal to be standing behind an ADL podium and photographed.

Jewish-Catholic relations are usually one-sided.

A pillar of "interfaith" Jewish-Christian organizations tends to be the propagandizing of Christian sensitization to Jewish concerns about "anti-Semitism" (underscoring alleged Christian blame for the "Holocaust"), and revision of historical Christian religious texts to accommodate Jewish demands. These types of interfaith organizations are typically constructed towards Christian sympathy of Jewish hostility to Christianity. Note that some directors are actually rabbis at Christian colleges -- a situation that is reciprocally unthinkable at a Jewish center of higher learning. Interfaith "dialogue" with Jewry is essentially Christian CONCESSION to Jewish perspective, never the other way around. Thanks for listening.

Its not really fair to call your postings "self-congratulatory". One of the things I like about this blog is that it hits hard issues (like immigration etc) head on. I very much appreciate hearing yout (& the Church's) perspective.
It seems like church closings are a real hot button issue for some people. If we remember that the Church is really the Body of Christ on earth, it shouldn't really matter where we worship. The way things are going, we're all going to have to get used to alot more persecution than that in the years to come.

I agree that it might be somewhat misleading for Christians to celebrate the Seder. I suppose that there might be catechetical reasons, as well as the important motive of interreligious peace, for becoming familiar with the Jewish ritual, but the problem is that celebrating a Seder meal can be confusing. The Holy Father clarified just the other day in Sacramentum Caritatis that the Eucharist is not an adaptation or renewal of the Passover, but something radically new.

Jesus thus brings his own radical novum to the ancient Hebrew sacrificial meal. For us Christians, that meal no longer need be repeated. As the Church Fathers rightly say, figura transit in veritatem: the foreshadowing has given way to the truth itself. The ancient rite has been brought to fulfilment and definitively surpassed by the loving gift of the incarnate Son of God. The food of truth, Christ sacrificed for our sake, dat figuris terminum.

I don't think that it's necessarily "wrong" to participate in a Seder supper. But in order to avoid confusion, I think it should be made very clear that the difference between the Seder and the Eucharist is not on the level of adaptation, but on the level of a truly "new creation."

Sorry, I hope I'm not going off on a tangent here. It's just that I am very interested in this one point that the Holy Father was making. It seems pivotal in his document.

Cardinal Sean,

Happy Anniversary from your neighbor to the north. It is always fascinating reading your blog entries - you are always going, which tells me that you're an "active pastor" rather than a passive one. That is truly heartening.

Please continue to pray for those who think our church is fragmenting. It is not. Unfortunately, the world we live in constantly tries to get in our way and undermine our faith. We, as Christians have to work hard to not let this happen. Besides, nobody said life as a Catholic was ever going to be easy.....

Peace,
Walt

Happy Anniversary-you have offered a beacon of hope to the those of us who survived and suffered during the years of disgrace and deception. I applaud your efforts to reach out to our brothers and sisters of different faiths, we are all children of God. I just wish interfaith programs and experiences were more available to our children so that understanding and compassion could be learned at an ealy age. I think this should be brought into our parochial school system and our CCD teaching.
Please keep up with the blog-it is a way for those of us who have never met you to get a sense of who you are as the man and the pastor.
May the wind be ever at your back, I know you are in the hollow of His Hand.

In seeing Stella's comment above I could not help but feel sad for her. There will always be trouble in our great Catholic faith because it is the one, True church and therefore the only church that satan is always trying to destroy.

The serenity prayer comes to mind where we need to change the things we can..... which is by evangelizing our brothers and sisters... one heart at a time.

Happy Anniversary and thanks for a memorable conference last week.

Cardinal Sean,
You and the work that the Lord has given you are truly inspiring. It is the Catholics like you (who truly do Jesus' work) that give young Catholics (21 year-old convert) like me hope for the future.
You stopped right next to me during the processional hymn at the Mass for Life in DC this year; what a privilege (I was one of the people in the isle!). God's blessings and my prayers are with you as you continue his work.

Happy Anniversary, Cardinal Sean!

I am enjoying reminiscing about watching Pope Benedict confer the red hat on you a year ago. It was so grand to have the privilege of being there with you. What a joy to know that you are really appreciated for all that you give to the church and to us who know and love you. Ad multos annos!

Persevere in God's grace!

Dear Cardinal O'Malley
What has happened to the Catholic Church? When churches are being sold ( to those who scorn the Church) and chaos reigns in this world, all I see on your blog are self congratulatory "events" that laud individuals and multicultualism.
I joined the church (as a convert from Judaism)ten years ago. I thought it stood for what the one true Church of Jesus Christ has always stood for. I was sadly misled.
