Your Emminence, Dominus Vobiscum.
First time find of your blog, and my ever using one. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your surreal flurry of acivities, with compassion on how you manage all that. Las Vegas sounded like (for a South Dakota-Virginian) a real 'hoot'. I'm sure your visible presence probably awakened a number of souls on their availability of the Sacraments.
God Bless You and your flock on your progressive vision. You've got your work cut out for you, and seem to have an excellent handle on making the right choices.
I pray for the likes of Alex, who seem to want to hide the candle under the basket, rather than standing as a moral light to public officials, and to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament on understanding and cures. God only knows the aborted surgeons and scientists who had the ability to solve some of the problems he makes note of. Satan is so sinister! God Bless. jt

Thank you Cardinal Sean, for taking the time to help us celebrate the 50th Jubilee at Resurrection Parish in Hingham. Your presence made this significant event even more special.
Also, I enjoyed seeing your with Father Mark in Las Vegas. Since I had two sons attend Portsmouth Abbey he has been our friend and, in fact, married one of the boys a number of years ago. We do not see him offen now, but I believe my son, Ted stays in touch. Please extend our (Edna and Bill) regards when you see him again.

The Pope has expressed his desire that more Latin be used at every Mass, and that Gregorian chant should be given pride of place in the celebration of the Roman Rite. This is perfectly in line with Vatican II documents and every Pope since Vatican II has said the same thing. Why, then, are there so few parishes in the Boston area offering Masses with ANY Latin at all? We could use your leadership in this area...

We could also use some compassion from you for those of us who would like to attend a Traditional Mass, but can't afford to drive 50 miles each way to do it. I beg you to please allow more Tridentine Masses in your diocese - the Pope has expressed his desire for this himself - and, as you know, he may be issuing a Motu Proprio along those lines. How about taking the initiative and providing your own "Indult" for each parish under your jurisdiction to choose for itself? If parishes can choose to have Rock Masses and folk Masses and all other varations, why not the Tridentine Mass, which nourished so many saints for so many centuries?

Dear Cardinal Sean,

All of this traveling to Los Vegas and South America!!

I think we need you right here at *home* for a while. As JPII has written, a bishop should stay in his diocese. I really enjoyed celebrating the mass with you at the Boston Catholic Men's Conference. I really think that the Archdoicese has a very deep spiritual thirst and need right now and that your presence and homilies at every parish would make a huge impact!

Neat blog - if "apostle" means something like one who is sent (which it does, if I remember correctly), then your recent flurry of cross-country and diocesan travels really makes that word come alive. I enjoyed reading about how my American bishops serve Christ in picaresque prose.

With regards to some well-meant but clearly anti-Catholic comments to the blog, could we please have someone monitor them, deleting as necessary, lest confusion be caused among the laity who may not know better about the true teachings provided by the Magisterium.

Hello Cardinal Sean,

According to our gospel traditions, marriage is between a man and a woman. I believe that in our Church, it must be preserved as so.

I don't, however, agree that it is appropriate to forward our ideology into state and federal politics, or onto folks who do not practice our faith. As a practicing Catholic and a Democrat, I always try to walk in Christ's path by teaching through example. A blatant political movement against gay marriage rights has and will continue to create animosity against the Church.

I believe demonstrating our faith through good works, tradition, and integrity (as you do) is the best strategy for convincing the public from the grassroots.

Putting a minority's rights on a ballot is not the answer, and persecution isn't what Christ would want for his children.

Here's my question for you, if I disagree with the Church's politics, is that a sin?

I also support Pro-Choice politicians for their stance on preventing unwanted pregnancy through comprehensive sexual education. If effective, this could decrease the abortion rate...a REAL solution to the abortion issue.

I also support Embryonic Stem Cell Research for the millions of lives it could save by finding cures faster for terminal and genetic diseases...my mom suffers from heart disease, diabetes, and kidney failure at the age of 55. While I believe it is wrong to exploit life for science, the 300 cultures asked by the House bill are being destroyed anyway from in vitro fertilization. A conservative estimate I read in a New England medical journal says that in 5 years of full federal funding, diabetes would have a genetic treatment.

The Church's politics asks me to choose the life of an embryo the size of a period (.) over my mom's. I just can't do that.

The embryos are God's children just like my mom, but she's suffering and they aren't. They don't have nerves or tears or fear...she does.

Please tell the Holy Father about me. Every day time is wasted that could help cure people like my mom...and it tears me apart that my Church's leaders advocate for that wasted time. I cried when she was diagnosed with all her illness, I got angry, and then I prayed for you and all the Cardinals to help.

Just because I practice Roman Catholicism doesn't mean I invest in the leaders' interpretation of contemporary issues. My spot in the pew doesn't allot anyone political capital.

You don't need to respond, save the typing time and research the life-saving potential of ESCR for me.

Hi Sean
Im a studen at Boston College High School and I think that gambeling is not in itself sinfull but it brings sin out in people. I Enjoy reading your blog and i think that it is usefull to get connected with the people in the church in this Modernizing world. Now every thing is becoming out dated and new technology is getting developed every day and I applaude you for trying to keep up with it

Hello, Your Emminence,

I think that it is great that you have this blog. I noticed that you will be attending the World Congress on Mercy in Rome next year. I am asking Bishop Barbarito if I can be a delegate from the Palm Beach diocese. Things are going well now at St. Lucie's, but we sure do miss you down here. St. Lucie's has dramatically increased attendance after celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday this year. I wish that all parishes throughout the world would follow the example to quickly restore our Church.

With every prayerful good wish,

Hello Crainal O'Malley -
Greetings from Saint Louis, Missouri. Tonight we had a wedding in our Church and your Deacon Dan Kennedy presided - GREAT JOB! He told me he is nervous as he will be ordained in 3 weeks and he hope you give him a good assignment! I am just a plain OFM - pastor here at Saint Anthony's (also the Provincial House!) So I have to behave! But have a new assignment in your old neighborhood - Saint Rose on Detroit. So if you get back to Cleveland - please stop in!

Thank you for another great weekly summary of activities and for all that you and the other religious do in service of humanity and the Lord. The pictures are, as always, splendid and sweet!

One thing I love is your generosity throughout your blog entries in illuminating the service of sisters in the Church. They are true heroines, and the work only increases as they gracefully age, yet they serve on, even as we strive and await for new vocations.

To all sisters in the Church: Veni electa mea, et ponam in te thronum meum... dicit Dominus..... Ista est speciosa inter filias Jerusalem.

Praying for priestly, brotherly, and sisterly vocations, and that women in particular understand the glory in service as sisters, and how they are life blood of the physical body of the Church and community, and prayer life.

I know many homosexuals who were born that way and reocgnized as homosexual in their early, early years.

Aren't they entitled to love and be loved.?
To be accepted just for who God created them to be?

Is our God not big enough to include everyone?

Thanks, your Eminence, for the photos and story about the Little Sisters of the Poor. I have always heard of their devotion and the goodness of their work, but had never seen them. I remember that my vocation director gave me the life of Jeanne Jugan to read.

Thanks to for reminding us about the marriage vote. We all need to make an effort in this!

Hi Cardinal Sean,
My favorite picture in this blog is the one with you and Fr. Mark Serna, retired abbot of Porthsmouth Abbey in Rhode Island. The statue of Jesus, behind you, with outstreched arms seems to give a nonverbal Message, "These are my guys and I love them. Don't You?" Yes, Jesus, we love them. I laughed picturing you and Fr. Brian getting off the plane in Las Vegas. It sounded like a joke. I imagined the Lord observing you and with a smile, saying to Mother Mary," Did I send them there on a mission?" lo
