Your Eminence,
Good entry this week. Continue to pray for vocations to both priesthood and married life and continue the work that you do for both those areas; I am discerning which path God would have me take as a young Catholic man. Those of us discerning definitely need your continued prayers!
Peace,
Ryan

Dear Cardinal Sean,
Your visit to Lourdes with the Order of Malta put me in mind of a book I had read - My Life With the Saints - by Rev. James Martin, S.J. Fr. Martin devotes a chapter to Bernadette Soubirous and to his experience as a Lourdes chaplain at the invitation of the Order of Malta. His account of his experience at Lourdes includes wonderful bits of humor. I recommend Fr. Martin's book to your blog readers!

Cardinal Sean, your stamina is truly amazing!

Dear Cardinal O'Malley,
Thank you for the pictures and stories from Loudres. They bring that holy place into our lives more intimately.
On the comments by the Holy Father on excommunication and the clarification by Priests for Life (#6), is it safe to say that the Church no longer believes that scandal is possible in our culture, or that public sanction is simply no longer a useful weapon? I am not talking about giving Holy Eucharist. I am asking about any sanction at all.

Peace,

Dearest Cardinal,

I had the pleasure to chat with you at dinner in Lourdes.
My brother Eddie attened as malade and I his caregiver. I have had the unique oppurtunity to experience living my cursillo, visiting the Vatican and going to Lourdes all in the past eight months. I also got my brother to live his cursillo in Feb..
My brothers son has M.D. They couldn't accommadate him on the flight, but he was with us in spirit. Eddie is in such a better frame of mind. We give it all back to the Lord. I have been so inspired in the past year that I applied for a delayed vocation. Please keep us in your prayers and may God bless you.

Like it or not, marriage has very much become a political
issue in our lives. If same-sex marriage persists here, it is certain to spread elsewhere. And I believe this will mean the end of our civillization as we know it -- not immediately, but within a generation or so. Today's Glolbe reports that our chief law enforcement officer, Attorney General Martha Coakley, has vowed to use her office to preserve sodomite marriage. On the next page of the Globe we learn that a preschool-age chiild at a Provincetown elementary school has contracted syphilis. And The Pilot this week features a shocking article on the "myth of safe sex." God save us! Cardinal Sean, it's about time to call a Great Fast.

Your Eminence,
In one of your photos, during the candle light vigil or procession, during this visit at Lourdes, i see an image of the blessed Mother with outstreched and open arms. Is there a picture of our Lady of Lourdes with outstreched arms in the backdrop during this candle light procession when you took the shot?
Just curious, your eminence.
Thank you and God bless

Thank you Cardinal Seán for the reminder of Lourdes. It is a very special place for Catholics.

Jasper regarding pro-abortion politicians hopefully the Holy Father’s writing as a Cardinal is followed closer.

———————–
Regarding the grave sin of abortion or euthanasia, when a person’s formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him, instructing him about the Church’s teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist.

Thanks, your Eminence, for the photos and story of Lourdes--making it real for us, as it were. The mystery of sickness is such a source of searing meaninglessness for folks in our society, and this is such a help.

Thanks too for the piece on our consecrated virgins; for letting everyone know about a sometimes less-known corner of religious life in our Church.

God bless!

Cardinal Sean,

In light of the Pope's recent statement about Pro-abortion politicians receiving communion and promoting a culture of death, what is your stand? Will you make a statement to the many catholic pro-abortion politicians here in Massachusetts? I'm not saying denying communion, but just spread the word that being "pro-choice" and Catholic is not an option. I think if they hear it from you it will make a difference.

God-Bless you Cardinal Sean and thank-you for your leadership!

I’m told there are no coincidences. I just updated my blog with a few photos of Lourdes, and then bounced over to here. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Basilica before my eyes – your photos are beautiful!

I made a pilgrimage to Lourdes with a group from my parish five years ago. My nine year old son was the only child in the group with us, but he totally enjoyed himself. He’s not as brave as your friend William though – he wouldn’t go into the cold bath.

The spiritual director for our group was asked to be the main celebrant for the English Mass at the grotto – he was thrilled as it was his baptismal birthday.

I loved to go again some day…

Well, thank you for keeping up with your blog. I continue to visit often.

God bless you, Cardinal Sean!
