I just saw a news brief from EWTN and it seems that the Motu Proprio of Pope Benedict XVI has a peculiar ecumenical dimension. Patriarch Alexis II has praise for Pope Benedict for issuing the wide protection for the celebration of the Latin Tridentine Extraordinary Rite. "Because" he says "it signals a concern for Traditional Rites such as the Orthodox have always held sacred." He went on to indicate that the Traditional Byzantine Liturgy helped them through the years of persecution. In Russia they are forbidden to use vernacular Russian and must use Old Slavonic in the Liturgy. Therefore, pulling ourselves together to work for the widspread success of the 1962 Missal is working for sound Ecumenism. So, Our Lady of Fatima is at work to bring back the Tridentine as a sign for the eventual conversion of Russia.

Cardinal Sean: How impressive to see a hundred thousand pilgrims come together, often at great expense and hardship, to honor Our Lady of Fatima and how wonderful it would be to have a Father Peyton rise from the sorry ranks of the 'lukewarm' today to spread anew her request to say the Rosary - for love of Jesus, for peace and as reparation for sin.

Saint Francis predicted many times of Cardinal Ugolino of Ostia, what I see in you, dear Cardinal Sean:

"To the future father of nations, and most venerable bishop of the whole world."

Your Eminence

Just recently, my parents were watching RTP (the Portuguese government channel), when they called me (I was doing an assignment for uni) to see. I recognised you instantly celebrating the Eucharist in Fatima. My parents, of Portuguese origin, migrated here to Sydney, Australia and for us, it was wonderful to see you celebrating at such a sacred place. Thank you simply for your presence in the world, a wonderful and holy example of love and service to God's people. I had heard of you a number of times before but I must say this, you truly are a great and holy man, one who reaches out to so many! Any chance of you coming to Sydney, Australia and maybe giving a blessing to this fool? :P
May Almighty God bless you with the fullness of life and strengthen you to carry out His works amongst us.

Dear Cardinal Sean,
How inspiring it was to read about your trip to Our Lady
of Fatima Shrine. The photographs were wonderful to
view. Having spoken to the pilgrims in Portugese, you
gave an added gift to those remarkable souls who possess
invincible Faith.
For those of us who are now confined to bed or wheelchair,
I thank you for your efficacious prayers for us.
Pax et bonum,
Denise, Bill and Mary Denise Dunn

The story about the fellow putting all his money into the trash can made me want to cry, particularly considering the majority of Americans could write a check to cover those months and months of earnings and not think a second about it. Thank you for sharing your life with us. It is so inspiring!

The Biotheics Center’s headquarters are in Philadelphia, and they provide a great service to the Church in the United States. They send us a monthly publication, Ethics and Medics, which we pass on to the priests. It is important for our priests to be informed of the current concerns in the area of medical ethics.

Always great to read your blog, Eminent Father.

I pray the Bioethic Center will comment strongly, along with the priests and bishops it reaches, on the slaying of late term unborn children via lethal injection, as reported by the Boston Globe on August 10.

Cardinal Sean, It is wonderful that you went to Fatima to celebrate Mass and to honor Our Lady. I would like to ask you to consider bringing a statue of Our Lady of America to our archdiocese. Archbishop Burke has promoted this devotion and has written all the bishops of the US about it. Our Lady of America represents a plea to restore purity and morality to this country. Please consider this. God bless.

Padre Sean: What a great photo you and Randy Kessler, he has not changed one bit! And how wonderful that he is still working for the Church at large. Thank you for sharing with all of us your visit to Portugal, and most of all for sharing with us your homily. Please continue to do so, because through you we still receive the message of the Lord and you inspire us to do the same. Gracias padre Sean.
