Eminence. You are in good company with Father Kevin Sepe. This priest is not unlike you. He means to follow the rule of Christ. What a delight. He is a true member of the Order of Melchisedeck (sp?). When Christ asked the question.Who do they say I am, a prophet?........Peter. Who do YOU say that I am. When Peter made his response..."You are the Christ, the son of the living God" Christ must have smiled and said (I paraphrase) " you could not have learned this on your own. My Heavenly Father...must have 'squealed'....Only He knows who I am." I am His Beloved Son". True God and True Man.
With all that is before us; God is dead. God does not exist. Poor Mother Theresa, her longing for God is fruitless; because there is No God. Interesting. We go to adore God each Sunday by taking His Body and Blood, under the 'appearance of bread and wine' which is the HOST, as we say with Stephen, "MY Lord and My God". How Wonderful it is to receive such a great Gift for Belief in the Church of Jesus Christ, its Founder, who perpetually celebrates the Last Supper, at the command of CHRIST....."as often as you do These Things, you do so, In Rememberance of ME. Eminence. That is good enough for me. What say you? Eddie Leahy, Port Orange, FLorida, formerly from St. Claire's, Braintree. Pax

I am appalled that the cardinal is calling other people evil just because they have different beliefs. What was truly evil was the child abuse that those in charge allowed to continue for years. We practicing Catholics deserved much more from our leaders, but instead all we got was a coverup. I would like to know what the cardinal was doing about this at the time it occurred before he calls anyone else evil. It is truly ironic that the abuse came to light in the Boston (his)diocese.

Dear Cardinal: I was very pleased to read of the report by the USCCB on pro abortion Catholics and especially your words of condemnation and concern for Catholics. In the past I have been disturbed by our Catholic hierarchy's non-committal to the gospel of life and their "permissiveness" of Catholic politicians who are pro abortion. Thank you for keeping our church holy and for teaching.

How wonderful that the USCCB has prioritized the consideration we Catholics should give to politicians' view on issues. I believe strongly that placing the gospel of life as the number one issue in deciding to vote for someone is a work of the Holy Spirit which can produce fruit across our naton - eliminating the atmosphere of violence toward the unborn, the frail, the elderly and the rest of us. We must pray for that mental and spiritual shift, and the bravery, which will move us and others to talk and walk this gospel of life. We must move in our parishes to spread this message.

Dear Cardinal Sean,

Your postilion on abortion and Catholic political leaders is certainly consistent; however, I don't agree that it 'the most important moral issue facing policymakers.' I am not saying that abortion is not a very important moral issue, but to place it above the death penalty, the War in Iraq, how we care for the children who are born and live in poverty, abusive households, and without adequate health care... is an injustice. The Church must, in my view, stand equally against the loss of the life - all life - and regardless of the means. And, it must equally stand for opening the doors to the opportunities of life, so that the child born has the opportunity to fulfill and use the gifts God has given him/her. To place abortion above these issues, undermines my understanding of the Sermon on the Mount, which in my opinion is our "Gold Standard."

Which way to we vote? The options are terrible, and we need to live with the results:

   1. Vote for an anti-abortion political candidate?
   2. Vote for a pro-abortion/choice candidate?

People who voted for anti-abortion candidates during the last two (2) presidential elections brought a political party to power that has intitated a war that will last for 300 years. Because of our political leaders' overall incompetency (not their moral backbone), today's children, and tomorrow's, and the day after, will have to put on a military uniform or become a terrorist target, and be placed in harm's way. This is murder, or at least manslaughter.

We have sacraficed our country (as Rome fell) by being single-issue voters, won a Pyrric Victory, but began the destruction of our America, and what it stood for in the eyes and hearts of its citizens, and on the world stage. Being single-issue voters has resulted in the Suicide of America. Can we ever sing our moral highground songs again.

Whoever votes an pure "anti-abortion" candidate should also nominate a member of their family who will go into the military to fight the hornet's nest of militant Islam, one that was smaller and contained until the elected "anti-abortion" leadership unnecessarily began a global war. If not a current member of the family, the voters should pledge a future child, grandchild, greatgrandchild, greatgreatgrandchild, etc. who will need to be put in harm's way as a result of a "single-issue" voter who only votes on a candidate's political position on abortion. If a family member is not nominated, reality will reach out in some way and get them anywy.

The byproduct of single-issue voters (anti-abortion) has been the war in Iraq. The cost and the carnage is a direct result of of those earlier votes that provided a tipping point for poor leadership coming into power. What we see on TV and the Web, and hear on the radio and see in print, was brought about as a result of a pure "anti-abortion" vote. Aren't we, as Catholics, already carrying a lot of Guilt?

The above results by voting on a pure "anti-abortion" candidate' political stance are true. That being said, by voting a pure "pro-choice" candidate will undoubteldly result in more abortions, that is until we become wise enough to eliminate the need for abortions in the first place.

Tough decisions. Whichever way we vote, we must be prepared to accept and embrace the decisions.

One path leads to murder and suicide. Another leads only to murder. These are the options. Both are mortal sins. Which mortal sin do we choose?

Cardinal Sean,

As the voting season aproaches, I am torn on who would Jesus vote for?

Its going to be a Dem or Rep.

Dems:
for abortion, lack of personal responsiblity and self reliance.
Rep:
pro death penalty, anti labor, seems bottom line is only way to look at things.

which is the lesser evil?

The Boston Archdiocese is truly blessed to have a humble and pious Friar as it's Cardinal Archbishop! I am a Russian Orthodox Christian in Washington, DC and follow the Boston Archdiocese activities on its web page. The example that Cardinal Sean sets simply by the style and manner of his daily living is a strong sermon about how the shepherd has come "to serve and not to be served." In a time when Church leaders fall into the temptation of coming across in a "princely" manner, your Cardinal is a wonderful example of humility, piety, and genuine pastoral leadership." Cardinal Sean: "Ad multos annos!"

Cardinal Sean, I get discouraged sometimes with the bishops in this country, esp after reading Diogenes' column, so its good for me to look at your blog & see that we do have some bishops who are trying hard to do their job like Jesus wants. Thank you!

I am struck by the absence of women in the photos -- other than the chair of the gala. It seemed as if this is a church comprised only of men and boys, as celebrants, choir members, and acolytes.

Cardinal Sean, Your talk to the Order of Malta reminds me of
Archbishop Chaput's words :"If pagan Rome could be won
for Jesus Christ, surely we can do the same in our own world.
What it takes is zeal and courage to live what we claim to
believe. So let's pray for each other and encourage each other
and get down to the Lord's work."

What a treat to have His Eminence Cardinal Sean at our Centennial Dinner tonight, along with former Pastors, former teachers at St Tarcisius School from the Sisters of St. Joseph, visiting priests from local areas. Cardinal Sean also blessed the new Tech Center at St Tarcisius School, with lovely Mary Wyman, the Principal. Dinner was great;
food was delicious; serrvice was super.
KUDOS TO ALL SO WORKED SO HARD TO MAKE THIS AFFAIR A SUCCESS.
