Dear Cardinal Sean,

Thank you, so much, for your presence at Spellman in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the school. As a proud alum, I know the effect that Spellman has had on my life, it being a key component to my vocation to the priesthood. I hope and pray that in your visit, you got at least a small taste of what makes Spellman the fine institution of Catholic education that it is! Thanks, again!

Dear Cardinal Sean,

I believe it is time for a massive religious bailout. We need to get back to the basics and use the most powerful weapons that we have: Jesus in The Most Blessed Sacrament, Adoration, Holy Hours, a return to devotions, begging for God's Mercy at The Hour of Great Mercy as Jesus did instruct us to do through St. Faustina. We need a massive prayer campaign to pray for God's Mercy on our country and on the whole world. More babies have been aborted over the last 35 years than the total number of those killed during wartime in the 20th century, our apathy as laity and religious in this matter will not be overlooked. This is the time for atonement and reparations. How many of our youth do you think could define the concept of praying for atonement and reparation? How many do you think could state Who the Most Blessed Sacrament is? Howmany even know for example, what Forty Hours is, yet alone how to pray the rosary and or make the stations of the cross.. We are first and foremost in a moral and cultural crisis riddled with apathy and silence for too long and I believe we need to reverse this trend and we need to start now. Respectfully, Madelene Fogel. Jesus I trust in Thee.

Cardinal Sean,

I thank you for all your kind considerate works and hope you'll continue. I wish you'd consider how the "church" may better relate to the people who are ignoring its message. Is it because of the two different standards which we all are part of?

The personal touch is how we reach people; the people are the "church" and the "church" has lacked in encouraing the people to know "they" are the church.

It's very sad and I don't see change coming.

People must be embraced and included in all phases of their "church". Then, change and the message will go out.

May you feel Christ love in this comment. Pax. Bob

In relation to the stand on Pro-life:
I think we in the church as Catholics need to expand our view of Pro-Life to more than Anti-abortion.
I’m Catholic and Pro-Life
     But – I’m total Pro-Life --- all issues – NOT just abortion
I voted for Bush awhile back due to this issue – and look where we are now ??
Dead is Dead – whether by the abortionist knife, lack of care (Katrina), terrorists bullets, hunger or dying on the sidewalk due to homelessness
This year I’m for the greater overall issues of Pro- Life – not just the abortion issue and thus I will reverse my vote and vote for an overall change!!

As a pro-life Catholic I was sorry to read the article by Michael Paulson in the October 6 Boston Globe in which it seems that although you yourself wisely avoided mentioning the election, you are being used in a simplistic way by one political party.
If Catholics were a clear majority of voters in this country, I would be in favor of the strongest possible statements on this and on other life-related issues. As we are less than a quarter of the electorate, we need to consider on which of the many important issues affecting 'the least among us' we can actually change current government policy to more closely reflect today's gospel story of the Good Samaritan.

Dear Cardinal, The new bishop of Scranton had a very strong and wonderful statement laying out the pro-life case. I'd urge you to issue a similar statement for all of us in the archdiocese. The bishop's statment is at: http://www.dioceseofscranton.org/Bishop%27s%20Pastoral%20Letters/RespectLifeSundaySeptember30th2008.asp
Than you and God bless.

Kelley Clark, your Irish brough is killing me

Did you know that Jesus Christ is the true shepherd? All others are hired hands and capable of abandoning their sheep - Jesus made this clear in the Gospel :o

Prof. Barbara, Jesus IS brother, savior, lamb of God, prince of peace, divine physician, the great I AM, the living GOD, etc. etc. How blessed you are, to recognize him as brother, since flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, though our Father in heaven has :)

Cardinal Sean, I love my private boxes with Jesus, I can too say that those plates down by home base have lost their luster as well.

Did I mention I have the gift of prophecy?

<i>I must say, after seeing the game from one of the private boxes, I can now say those seats down by home plate have lost their luster.</i>

Huh???? Eminent Father! The rarified air o' the private boxes isn't good for you! What you want is the bleachers...halfway through the game you can sneak down to where the real action is, and actually hear the players.

'Course it's not for the sheep to advise the shepherd. Incidentally, did you show the PTB your red socks? ;-)

Dear Cardinal Sean,

As a parishioner of St. George parish I want to thank you for presiding over the celebration of Fr. O'Brien's life, and faithfulness to our God and to the people he shepherded in the name of Christ. We miss him, and how he lived his life governed by the words, "What would Jesus do?"

I also want to thank you for acknowledging Fr. Ben Letran for stepping up and helping us to continue to function as Fr. O'Brien would want us to. Fr. Ben and the staff of St. George have worked remarkably towards comforting and consoling the parishioners over these difficult ten days.

All the best,

Patty Hebert

Reading this page was absolutely wonderful, Father Sean. Thank you so much for sharing these treasures with everyone.
I do have a question! God is our Father, of course. Also, Mary is our Mother! Does that make Jesus our brother? I had that thought "pop" into my head recently and now I am enthralled. It has activitated my heart and soul which is encouraging me to share this with my CCD students here in Rhode Island. Am I on track, Father? Thank you so much for your time. It is greatly appreciated.
