Hi Cardinal Sean!

I completely agree that we must make advances in science, but we must do so humanely. We have to be certain that the way we do things does no harm whatsoever.

Also, regarding the March for Life, I would very much like to go some day, as we must work for the pro-life cause, and against abortion.

I'll be sure to check back on Tuesday to read your blog! I love this website because it is a great way to keep in touch with religious current events. Keep up the excellent work!

More on Tuesday: Every year, my school has a St. Patrick's Day Show during the school day, where we celebrate St. Patrick, and Irish heritage (I'm 50% Irish, and very proud!). We sing, and have decorations, and it is a very fun time. Also, we have "Pot O' Gold" drawings throughout the month of March. You buy tickets ahead of time, and if your name is drawn, you get the prize money for that day. On St. Patrick's Day, the big prize is $1000! Everybody looks forward to it with anticipation and hope that it's their lucky year! This year, at the show, my class is singing "Wild Rover" and "Ratlin Bog". I'm sure it will be a lot of fun!

Have a great week, and God bless!!

Dear Cardinal Sean:

Thank you as always for sharing with us your ministry and the great happenings in the Church of Boston. You are the voice of reason on the embryonic stem cell issue. Your words help clarify the challenge.

Dear Cardinal Seán,

I agree with you about baning embryonic stem-cell research.

The mass for Rev. Daniel Kennedy must have been very moving and spiritual. He trained at my church, St. Mary's in Scituate. He was a good man.

Hope all is well.
I'm looking forward to your next blog.

Dear Cardinal Sean,
Is the light of God really dimming in humanity? How can we make it shine bright again? I enjoyed watching the video concering young people like myself in the catholic community. The paintings at St.Mary's in Dedham look so pretty! It must have been beautiful there. Would you mind praying for our church's pastor, who has recently had surgery? He is doing o.k but everyone always needs paryers!

Happy St. Patricks Day,

I do not doubt the sincerity of those who favor embryonic stem cell research, but I wish that they would understand that our opposition is not based on superstition or narrow-mindedness, but rather on a profound regard for the sacredness of human life.

Eminent Father,

I wish so too. And I have an idea. Why not tell them that an embryo is a human life?

Because people in high places—like our former president—are saying just the opposite.

Bill Clinton, Larry King Live, February 17:

"But this stem cell research, if the stem cells are frozen embryonic stem cells, if they are never going to be used to be fertilized, to bring a life into being, then I think making them available for medical research is the pro-life position and I honestly don't understand - I would understand it if we were going and raiding stem cell banks, where these stem cells were going to be used to actually fertilize eggs and have babies."

Bill Clinton, Larry King Live, March 11:

"I think - the answer is I think that we'll work it through. If - particularly if it's done right. If it's obvious that we're not taking embryos that can - that under any conceivable scenario would be used for a process that would allow them to be fertilized and become little babies, and I think if it's obvious that we're not talking about some science fiction cloning of human beings, then I think the American people will support this...."

I flunked chemistry in high school and eked by biology in college and even I know that this is prevarication at best. Nobody's likely to believe me, though.

However, if other people in high places jumped on nonsense like this, corrected falsehoods like this, those who sincerely favor this type of "research" might at least be given a chance to have a change of heart.

Dear Cardinal Sean,

I think that programs such as ARISE can help make a difference in people's lives. Those programs help motivate people to become more active in the Church. They also help people become more aware about how good God is and how He can help us throughout our lives. All we have to do is pray and ask God for help and guidance and He will answer our prayers.

Sincerely,
Jenna Gibbons

Dear Cardinal Sean,
About the debate on stem-cell research, I believe that Barack Obama made the right choice to reverse the ban on federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research. It provides a hope for people with diseases such as Parkinson's Disease. I believe that the research is good if they are just going to "dispose of" the cells they were going to use. However, I do not believe in purposely using live cells for this research.
Sincerely,
Celene, a 7th Grade Student at St. Paul School

Dear Cardinal Sean,

As a young adult, I think that it is important for the Catholic Church to offer a number of different programs for young people to become closer with Christ. I think that all Catholics should take advantage of the programs and sign themselves up. I recently went to snow camps which is a fun retreat for adolescents. I had a great time and I urge others to look into it!

Thank you for this weeks blog!
