My sister and I helped raised over 3,500 dollars in a bakesale for Haiti. I hope that the money goes for good use. The earthquake in Haiti has come at the worst time, especially with the food crisis right at their tails. I hope that this earthquake will help Haiti receive all the attention and goods they need to survive.

Hello. My name is Alex Hickey and I am a freshmen at Boston College High School. I was shocked when I heard about the earthquake in Hati as some students from my school are of Hatian decent. I was stunned yet again when I discovered that there was an aftershock. These people need our prayers and I thank you for taking the time to acknowledge this. I was greately saddened and shocked to hear about the earthquake in Haiti on January 12th. I’m a senior at Boston College High School, and this past week, we raised over $10,000 for the victims in Haiti in our weekley mite box. After seeing the recent reports on CNN of the destruction and lack of food in Haiti, I realize that much more aid is needed there. I appreciate you posting pictures of the destruction because I know it will open many eyes to the true destruction in Haiti. My peers and I will continue to pray for the victims of Haiti and people around the world who have been affected by this tragedy.

The earthquake in Haiti has left thousands of people homeless and devastated with lost loved ones. It is very sad to see the prosperity of the United States compared to Haiti. In reality, Haiti does not have as much food as we and advances in architecture, and its sad to see we have not taken a step before to try and help a struggling country like Haiti. Lets keep Haiti in our prayers and thoughts and pray for the people that are terribly suffering here.

My name is Ricky McGaughey and I am a freshman at Boston College High School. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in Haiti right now. They weren’t very well off before the earthquake being the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Now they have to deal with the fact they can’t find food, water and shelter, which makes everyday a challenge for them. Seeing all of the problems in Haiti make me for thankful for what I have.

I am a freshman at Boston College High School and our school has many students with family and friends in Haiti. Its terrible to have one of the poorest countries become in even worse than before. Our school managed to raise more than $10,000 for Haiti. Also, our class and probably many others pray for Haiti everyday. Dear Cardinal Sean, thank you for keeping me and my classmates posted on your weekly projects. Just recently i heard about the tragedy in Haiti and it is just heart wrenching! Those poor innocent people’s homes crushed and their lives destroyed right before their eyes! Together all of the people in my school are praying for them. We did a fundraiser for the Haitian people and we raised 2,500 dollars all together. Our school only consists of about 230 people I am very proud on how much we could pull together to help these people in their unfortunate times. Hello, my name is Hugh and I’m a freshman at Boston College High School. I used to comment on your blog every week at St. Paul’s School; I had a feeling your blog this week would be on Haiti so I made sure that I read it. It seems unfair of God to devastate a nation that seemed as if it couldn’t go father downhill. However I believe this earthquake is a blessing in disguise, it is giving the Haitians an opportunity to start over from scratch. Sure it will take many years but one day this nation could rise again, above the depths of poverty. This country is in desperate need of our help, and as one of the world’s most powerful nations, we must come to their aid. Although Haiti is across the world, it affects many of my fellow classmates, so this earthquake is a worldwide catastrophe. I hope that this nightmare will end soon and poverty in Haiti will go with it.

Dear Cardinal Sean,

When I first heard of the devastation in Haiti my heart dropped. At first I thought this wouldn’t be a big deal, which was before I realized they were the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. After that I saw pictures and videos and I thought about all of the people who live in the United States who have friends and relatives who live in Haiti. Of course I thought about the people in Haiti and I have been praying every night for them.
The people in Haiti are our neighbors and it is wonderful that countries from all over the world are joining together to help these people. It is very devastating to hear about the Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot, he was a great man as well as your friend. It is great that the Catholic Relief Services is stepping forward and committed 5 million dollars.
I will keep these people in my prayers and do all that I can to help them and I will encourage others to do so as well.

The earthquake that hit Haiti is a terrible tragedy. It is bad enough that Haiti is already the poorest country in the western hemisphere, but the earthquake has created so much more devastation. It is very sad that so many people have died, including the archbishop. We can only hope and pray that the people of Haiti will be able to get back up on their feet and rebuild. It is comforting that people are donating so much money to help the people of Haiti get the very basics, food and water. In fact last Friday, my school, Saint Paul School, raised over $2,000 to help. What I personally think is amazing is that our school consists of just over 200 students!

Only 19 days ago Haiti was celebrating its Independance Day as a nation. 12 days after, Haiti was looking at an event that will effect an already troubled nation, even more. We are all mourning the massive number of casualties in Haiti, but we can’t even begin to imagine how worried the people in Haiti must be. As one of the most powerful countries in the world, it is our job to serve as a leader in Haiti because we are taught to love everyone equally and to do whatever we can to help the people who need our help. In these times of sorrow, there are moments of greatness that we don’t always notice. In this moment, every country that is able has contributed to Haiti and we have, for a short period of time, come together as a world. I will continue to pray for the people in Haiti and I hope that everyone does.

As a Boston College High School student, I have seen families in our community affected by the earthquake in Haiti. The lack of communication is definately an issue. Hopefully as other countries go in and help Haiti, people will have more ways to get in contact and find out the fate of their loved ones. Until then, we must keep them in our prayers.

Also, because of the lack of leadership in Haiti, we must help take charge and do whatever we can. Their country has been completely devistated and as a church me must help them rebuild.

Dear. Cardinal Sean, I am still in shock by what has happened these past few days. A friend of mine has relatives in Haiti, and I feel like I can't do anything to help him. He used to be happy and full of energy, but ever since the Earth Quake, he has never been the same. He has not heard of what happened to his family, but all I can do now is just pray for him and his family. My school is trying its best to help Haiti. I go to Boston College Highschool. Students contribute money every week to something we call the 'mite box'. Last week, our school donated up to $10,000 dollars in just one day. I am happy that countries around the world are coming together in a desperate time to help those in need, and I will continue to pray for my friend, and I ask if you can too. Hello. My name is Liam Whalen and I am in the 9th grade at Boston College High School. During this past week, the students at my school have come together in their concern for the thousands of people hurt by the disaster in Haiti. Our school community was motivated by our desire to be “Men for Others” and decided to act. Every Thursday our school holds a collection for the mite box. Last week our mite box was designated to help the victims of Haiti. Boston College High School was able to demonstrate that we are men for others because we raised money to give to the victims in Haiti. We also pray everyday for those who are suffering because they can use God’s grace to help them through these tragic times. By helping the people of Haiti we are not only developing relationships with them but we are strengthening our relationship with God.

After hearing the news of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, I was shocked, because as you said, Cardinal Sean, this already poor country has been continuously hit with disasters, whether it is the flooding or now this horrible earthquake. I believe that this is a time when, regardless of where we come from, we are all children of God and we all need to reach out and help the victims and those who lost a loved one in this tragic disaster. I know personally that at Boston College High School we raised over ten thousand dollars the past Thursday, to help the people of Haiti. During this time of turmoil we as a nation under God, rather than as a nation under the U.S., need to lend a hand to those who were hurt by this earthquake and try to help Haiti reestablish their country.
